A brigadeiro is a South American sweet commonly found in Chile (Brigadeiros). It was first created in the 1940's by Brigadier Eduardo Gomes. To most people it looks like a chocolate truffle and is filled with chocolate and covered with powdered sugar, sprinkles or both. The candy is mainly found in Chile but has traveled all throughout Chile because of the slave trade during the 1900's (Brigadeiros).
Its made by mixing milk, cocoa powder and butter all together in a large sauce pan (Brigadeiros). The mixture is usually simmered until the ingredients stop sticking to the bottom of the pan (Brigadeiros). Once that process start then the ingredients and sculpted into balls and coated in the sugar or sprinkles. Along with the ball shaped candy, sometimes the dessert will be served as a liquid and eaten with a spoon much like a fondue that is usually served at parties (Brigadeiros). Occasionally a small amount of Rum or brandy can be cooked into the recipe to add an extra addition of flavor but its usually rare.
The candy is usually served at almost every party and is one of the most popular desserts in Chile enjoyed by both Adults and children throughout the country.
